Zone Training

This week has been good and bad. We've had more lessons this week and new investigators as well. That's mostly because we have been doing lots of street contacting this week. We had two days in a row of just contacting and it is extremely exhausting. We've been getting some street teaches and a few new investigators from it but a lot of the scheduled appointments we had were flogged or cancelled. We haven't had any dinner appointments last week. I have lost almost all of my energy. It's very stressful not having any proper sit down lessons. We couldn't visit Damien because he's been sick but we did get to teach another new investigator this week. His name is Peter; he's 20 years old (if I'm remembering correctly) and he knows the bible really well. He actually stopped us on the street and told us that missionaries have taught him and his family before and he want's to start meeting with us again. So far we've only met with him but the rest of his family don't seem too interested any more. So we'll just meet with him for now. He's very kind and is sincerely seeking for the truth. I think the lesson went well.

Here is the picture we took on our Zone Training a few weeks ago.

Canada Day

Hello family..

We have been having some really nice weather this week. In fact I don't think it rained at all in the past couple weeks. It's been super hot. I guess I sent all the rain over to you.

It's been a hard week but we've picked up a baptismal date. His name is Damien and he's in his mid twenties. He's a nice guy and he's trying to quit smoking so we told him we're going to help him with that. He just got a new job as a security guard but he works really late shifts so we're worried it may make it hard to meet with him or bring him to church as he'll want to sleep. But he told us his life has been better since we met him; that he started getting job interviews (he's had a hard time finding a job) and he's been feeling over all more positive in general.

We've been focusing on contacting former and potential investigators the past few days and we made a list of people we want to try by this week. Turns out the area book doesn't look too bad. It seems fairly up-to-date. Way better than the one in my last area. Hopefully we will have success contacting these people but we want to find new people to teach and we're having a hard time with that.

We've been able to meet more of the members. One of them reminds me of Merle Dixon. We had dinner at his place.

I did get grandmas parcel. A plushy moose that says "moose hugs from Canada." (made in China) You didn't send me the pictures from Britt's birthday.

Wicked Wendy 2

Hello everyone.

Glad to hear everything is still doing good over there. Good to hear that you all are keeping busy. And happy fathers day! Hope you had a good one. Justin's going to love having a job (or at least the part where you get your own spending money from it). $14 an hour sounds good! And he'll love being able to drive. Don't worry once he gets his license he'll practice a lot more. I miss driving. You can sell my car though, I don't like the idea of it not being used for so long and someone else may really want an old toyota. Besides, I still really want a mini and it would be a good chance to have a new car. I'm not expecting you to buy one but keep an eye out for one for me. And tell justin that he doesn't have to give in to peer pressure. It's okay if he likes big trucks but he should be more open minded. Maybe he needs to watch some topgear. That might help. But if he's willing to pay for his own gas maybe he can find out for himself if it's worth it.

There's not much I can tell you this week as my companion and I have been sick for a collective two and a half days. I'm slowly getting familiar with the members here. I've been able to meet some of them at church but it's a lot easier to get to know them if we meet with them personally and we've only had one dinner appointment since I arrived here. I think that's where we got the sickness. We thought it was food poisoning from something we ate the night before but apparently the family we visited all got the same illness as us. We think it was just a bug. So apart from being stuck in our flat for a few days we also had a lot of plans cancelled so we mostly did street contacting and knocking. The area is a nice area but it's taking longer to adjust because I've hardly met any of the members formally and I've only met once with the investigators that I know of. I want to go through the area book to get a good idea about what people we are teaching. Unfortunately this aria book looks like another out of date one.

My new shoes are holding up well. We still do a lot of walking in this area but not as much as my last one. I like Romsey so far. I still haven't got grandma's package yet because the zone leader were late to "district leader council" or something so I'll get it at zone training on the 18th. I'd better send you some pictures now. This first one is of the abbey from our flat. I think we'll go there today for more pictures.

We went to this nice milkshake shop and they had hundreds of flavours. Here's two of the more interesting ones...

Trying out the new camera

Hello how are you?

So first of all last week I said I got a Canon PowerShot SX160 IS. My mistake it's actually a Canon PowerShot SX170 IS. I like it. I think my new camera takes too nice quality pictures because I can only send two at a time.

We did get the cake and it was fine, it wasn't hard. It tasted just fine; it didn't last long...

It's good to hear that Britt enjoyed her trip. Those are some nice pictures. I'm also glad to hear that she will finally be working. Now you need to talk Justin into getting a job. If he still wants a big truck he's going to need to make lots of money.

The new area is really cool. We go to the Winchester ward and it seems like a really nice ward.

My new companion is Elder Wilson from Arizona. He has a strange obsession with the colour red. He's been out for 14 months.

I thought they were going to bring Grandma Fisher's packages to moves (transfers) but apparently they don't do that any more. Probably because at moves everyone already has loads of stuff to carry. But I should be getting it tomorrow because my companion is the district leader and he goes to district leader training meeting so they should bring it there.

My new address is:

74B The Hundred Romsey,
Hants England
S051 8BX

I've got a few other pictures I'll try to send you.

Not sure how this got here. Maybe it's a barrel for shipping? But why?

Here's the truck Justin needs to buy
This was in Winchester.

And finally, this looks like something off of TopGear.. (British TV show)

Transfer to Romsey

Hello good to hear from you once again.

Nice picks of Chief mountain that you took with Grandma Fisher. I forgot how big it is. I can't wait to find out what grandma sent me. I'll be sure to take pictures of whatever it is when I get it. If she sent it to the mission home then the mission home doesn't contact us about packages. They bring all the packages to big missionary gatherings for the missionaries to pick up and take back to their area. So if grandma says it's at the mission home then I'll get it at moves (transfers) this Wednesday.

Kaitlyn already sent me the wedding invitation photos. They look really good. I can't wait for the big day!

Tell Britt to send me some photos from her trip. And tell her that she's spoiled.

I did get a new camera. It's a Canon PowerShot SX160 IS and it takes the same card and same battery as my last one so I got lucky. Especially because it was half price. It's a nice camera; It was £89.

Funny story about the birthday cake that you had delivered to our flat. It arrived to our flat on the one day that we had to leave the flat early. They couldn't leave it there or with a neighbor because it requires a signature. Instead of leaving it at the post office directly below our flat they sent it to Bracknell to be picked up. We don't have the time to go all the way to Bracknell so we had it re-sent to the post office and we'll pick it up today.

I'm moving to Romsey and my new companion's name is Elder Wilson. Another American.

( Note: After getting Elder Fishers e-mail I researched Romsey to add:  Romsey is a small market town in the county of HampshireEnglandRomsey lies on the River Test, which is famous for fly fishing, predominantly trout

Romsey Abbey was founded in 907. Nuns, led by Elflaeda daughter of Edward the Elder, son of Alfred the Great, founded a community — at his direction — in what was then a small village. Later, King Edgar refounded the nunnery, about 960, as a Benedictine house under the rule of St. Ethelflaeda whose devotional acts included chanting psalms while standing naked in the cold water of the River Test.

The Vikings sacked Romsey in 993, burning down the church. But the village recovered, and the abbey was rebuilt in stone in about 1000.

The Normans built the large current abbey that dominates the town (between c. 1120 and 1140) on the site of the original Saxon church. By 1240, 100 nuns lived in the convent.
King Henry I granted Romsey its first charter. This allowed a market to be held every Sunday, and a four-day annual fair in May. In the 13th century, Henry III permitted an additional fair in October.

Romsey continued to grow and prosper until plague struck the town in 1348-9. The Black Death is thought to have killed up to half of the Romsey's population of 1000. The number of nuns fell as low as 19. Prosperity never returned to the abbey. It was finally suppressed by Henry VIII during the Dissolution of the Monasteriesin 1539. Many religious buildings were destroyed during this time.

The investigators are doing good. Martin and Steph are doing good and still progressing. We met with Dean briefly and set up an appointment for this week. We asked how his reading was going and he said he thinks the Book of Mormon is true and that it gives him a good comforting feeling. Hopefully he'll end up on a mission. We also have a new investigator named  David. He's 56 and he's a really nice guy. He was taught 20 years ago in Australia and we met him on the street in Wokingham. He enjoys our visits and says we are a real blessing. He thinks the Book of Mormon is true but is not sure about baptism yet. He wants to think about it and find out if this is the only right church for him.
The poncho pilot thing we just did on our own. Every time I hear "Pontios Pilot" I always think it sounds like "poncho pilot". So one day i did quick little sketch and my companion and I thought it would make a good poster. And then Elder Brown mentioned that his sister can colour it in photoshop so I decided to do a bigger sketch for her to colour. Elder Brown is planning on sending the mug and the t-shirt to his sister as a birthday gift and I'm keeping the poster. If you want a t-shirt you can just take the picture I sent you to a printing place that does t-shirts with a usb or something. That's what we did.
